MAN OF KENT
Verse 1
Rosie loved her school years in North B
Classics, physics, math, astronomy
The leafy campus occupied her days
Where she went at night she wouldn’t say
Verse 2
Across the state line border was a bar
Just off New York 7 lots of cars
Through the back door down a flight of stairs
A table in the corner with four chairs
Chorus
Home sweet home
A place you can fit in with lots of crazy locals
Not alone
The Man of Kent will wrap you up and
Give you what you need
Verse 3
Philosophers and barkeeps dissect Keats
Bikers guard the door, knives in their sheaths
A couple in the corner frantic eyes
Checking all who pass watching for spies
Chorus
Home sweet home
A place you can fit in with lots of crazy locals
Not alone
The Man of Kent will wrap you up and
Give you what you need
Verse 4
Vermont is so lovely in the spring
Plenty of green grass and shady trees
But if scenery isn’t quite your thing
The Man of Kent will give you all you need
Chorus
Home sweet home
A place you can fit in with lots of crazy locals
Not alone
The Man of Kent will wrap you up
Home sweet home
A place you can fit in with lots of crazy locals
Not alone
The Man of Kent will wrap you up and
Give you what you need

In 2018 I read a book called Drinking with Men by Rosie Schaap. It's the story of a young woman who seeks out a bar wherever she's living, so that the bar can function as her home away from home. The Man of Kent in upstate New York was one of those places. For the music...let's just say I felt inspired by Donald, Walter, Michael and Larry.
